  • Use a re-useable bottle for your drink
  • Choose food with less packaging
  • Put on your plate what you can eat so you don’t need to throw food away

  • Use both sides of a piece of paper—do you have a ‘scrap’ paper tray in your classroom
  • Hold a sale of old clothes, books or toys and raise money at the same time
  • Make models and sculptures from ‘junk’. See the gallery for ideas


  • Using old things to make new
  • Make sure your school has paper recycling bins—paper is the main material thrown away by schools
  • Compost fruit and vegetable waste—it’s great to put on the garden
